Looking Through the Archieves--Indian River Tuna Trip Circa 2007

By Jim Field

I'm on a mission to post on our blog all the photos I've taken since owning the Sea Ya Bea, so that the blog lives up to its billing as an ongoing and permanent journal account of our fishing experiences together. Should the Crew have any photographs I don't have, you might send them along via email and then we can add them to the virtual album. The photographs today hark look back to July 7, 2007 and a tuna trip out of Indian River marina (DE), the primordial pool where our friendships began and I first became introduced to deep sea sportfishing.

As the record shows (see below), we had a beautiful day on the water weather-wise. The Crew consisted of Dan, Jim, Fran Junior, and a friend of Frans, Jim (I forget his last name), who also owned a Grady White boat like Frans boat. We caught three yellowfins, all of good size. The Crew and catch are shown on the pier outside the old fish-cutting station.

The day was notable in one way--we had Fran Junior along with us--something that we haven't seen in nearly a year and a half. (We miss him.) Also, on the humorous side, Jim our visitor did not take kindly to our reference of fishermen on the inlet's breakwater as "rock jockeys," given that he has frequently joined this group (of predominantly unsuccessful line casters) in the past.

As for our vessel, the Sea Ya Bea looked new(er)--all shiny and sparkling on B dock. The three tuna flags are customary up North, but not flown down in Hatteras (flags only flown for billfish.)

As for the Crew, the picture doesn't capture the details, but I'd say we look better now compared to back then--we're in better shape, more attractive overall, and much more experienced and successful sportfishermen. In fact, we're probably 5-10 years away from our prime, so a long way to go before peaking out. Here's to getting there--together!
